From Premiums to Lifelines: The CBC Machine Revolutionising Healthcare in Kimumu

The Kimumu Health Facility in Moiben Sub-County, Uasin Gishu, has become a beacon of hope and transformation, in healthcare delivery with the recent donation of a Full Haemogram (CBC) machine valued at Ksh 800,000.. This life-changing contribution, funded by Fairtrade Premiums and driven by the dedication of Sian Equator Flowers workers, underscores the power of community-driven initiatives to create lasting change.

For over a decade, the Kimumu Health Facility has been a pillar of healthcare in the region, but the addition of this state-of-the-art CBC machine marks a turning point. With the capacity to serve over 200 patients daily, the machine provides vital diagnostic services, enabling early detection and management of infections, anaemia, and other critical health conditions. Its impact extends beyond the facility’s walls, transforming Kimumu into a referral centre for three neighbouring dispensaries and bringing quality healthcare closer to home for thousands of residents.

The emotional handover ceremony brought together leaders and stakeholders whose collective efforts made this milestone possible. Among them were Dr. Abraham Serem (CEC Health, Uasin Gishu County), Nehemiah Kangogo (General Manager, Sian Equator Flowers), Mr. Abraham (Fairtrade Chairperson, Sian Equator Flowers), Mr. Eric Rutto (Fairtrade Officer, Sian Equator Flowers), and Kimutai Yegon from Fairtrade Africa. Dr. Joice Sang, Chief Officer of Health, captured the essence of the moment: “This machine represents more than just equipment—it’s a commitment to better health and a brighter future for Kimumu residents.”

The chief guest further emphasised the transformative potential of this partnership, stating, “Partnerships like this can elevate our facility from Level 3 to Level 4. We are committed to securing funds for fencing and strengthening its security and growth.” The county government echoed this commitment, announcing plans to deploy additional medical staff, including a Clinical Officer, a Laboratory Technologist, and four nurses, to meet the facility’s growing needs. Although the Governor was unable to attend due to prior engagements, he pledged to visit Sian Equator Flowers to thank the workers for their unwavering support personally.

This landmark donation is part of a broader tapestry of community-driven projects led by Sian Equator Flowers workers through Fairtrade Premiums. From renovating over ten schools and providing water tanks to training boda boda operators on safe riding practices, donating furniture to Chepkanga Police Station, and supplying tree seedlings for environmental conservation, their impact is far-reaching and transformative.

For the people of Kimumu, the CBC machine is more than a piece of equipment—it’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and collective action. It signifies a new chapter where healthcare is not just a service but a lifeline powered by the spirit of community. Through the tireless efforts of Sian Equator Flowers workers and their commitment to making a difference, Kimumu is now a shining example of what is possible when people unite for a common cause: a healthier, brighter future for all.
